Cake #1 – 08.23.09

Lisa contacted me awhile back about doing her grandmother’s 86th Birthday Cake.  She wanted 45 cupcakes with red roses and yellow accents.

I decided to put the cupcakes on the new stand we did her daughter’s birthday cupcakes on.  I baked two 6″ round yellow cakes for the topper cake followed by 45 cupcakes to fill the two tiers below.  I covered the topper cake with buttercream, added a red satin ribbon and piped cornelli lace.  I created the topper with red roses and yellow flowers and yellow ribbon to accent.  I piped a buttercream swirl on top of each cupcake and places a royal icing rose on each one that I had made a few days earlier.  I placed the remaining royal icing roses on the topper cake.  After 4 hours, it was complete.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Edna!  I wish you many more happy ones to come!

Cake #2 – 08.23.09

I was contacted awhile back about a baby shower cake for some friends expecting their second little girl.  I received the invitation in the mail to match the cake to.  It had three baby blocks so I decided to work the clocks into the design on the cake.

I baked 6 – 6″ square yellow cakes.  I stacked them two high for a total of 3 clocks.  I sat two at different agles on the cake board. I covered them in buttercream and piped on a heart with light pink buttercream in the middle of each side of every block.  I came back and piped the corners of each block eith the same color.  I used the white buttercream to pipe on the cornelli lace design surrounding the hearts.  Finally, I placed the third block on top of the bottom two and supported with dowel rods.  After four hours, it was complete.

Congrats, Jenny and Korey. We can’t wait to meet baby Allyson!

Cake – 07.11.09

Lisa contacted me a few weeks ago about a cake for her daughter.  She picked out a few cakes I had done recently to go by and told me she liked jewelry boxes. She wanted little girl colors and for the vanilla cake to feed about 30.

After going through all of the info I decided to combine all the cakes she liked and add the jewelry box as the main focus.  I went with a 3 tier cupcakes stand with the bottom two tier being cupcakes and the top tier being the box.

I bakes 3-6″ Round pans for the box.  I stacked two of the three for a 4″ box and covered them in pink buttercream.and then put the 3rd 6″ round cake on a board and did the same.  I wrapped hot pink ribbon around the bottom of the round box and piped cornelli lace of the lid.  I placed 5 dowel rods in the bottom to lift the lid 1″ off the box as it it were open.  I placed pink necklaces and bracelets where they draped out onto the sides of the cake and filled in the open space with pink/white daisies.  I tied a bow in the hot pink ribbon and placed on top.  I then baked 24 vanilla cupcakes and piped with pink buttercream.  A few days earlier, I made the “A”‘s for Anniston out of royal icing so they could harden to add to the cupcakes and topper. After I placed them on tope, I added hot pink sprinkles.  After placing all the letters on top I placed little daisies around the stand tie the top and bottom tiers together.  After 5 hours baking/decorating it was complete.  Happy Birthday Anniston!  Hope you have a wonderful day!  Thanks, Lisa, for the opportunity to play a part in her spoecial day.

Cake # 1 – 06.21.08

I booked two cakes this weekend which seemed to be a lot less hectic than the last few weekends, but I still ended with a total of 14 hours of baking/decorating.

The first cake was for Bailey’s First Birthday with the theme of a Luau. She wanted to feed around 25-30 people. We decided on a vanilla cake with buttercream icing overlaid with marshmallow fondant. I made a two tier cake and a small smash cake just for Bailey. I tinted the fondant a sandy golden yellow and mixed in gold luster dust so it would shimmer. I piped a grass skirt with a lai border and “Happy First Birthday Bailey”. The second tier was to alternate palm trees and flip flops.
I cut all of the designs from fondant and placed around the cake. I topped with leaves and flowers with a 1 in the center made of royal icing. I crushed up Graham Crackers and placed around the bottom of each tier to look like sand. I then tinted buttercream the same color as the fondant and iced the baby cake, placing two larger flip flops on top. I piped a B for Bailey on one and 1 on the other for her age. I sprinkled Graham Crackers on top and placed the candle in a flower. We delivered it to the bank and Hillary seemed very happy with it. So Happy Birthday to you, Bailey!

Cake # 2 – 06.21.08

The second cake was for a Baby Shower. Bre is expecting a little girl in August so we went with the theme of the baby’s bedroom – Chocolate with pink polka dots. She wanted a cake to feed 30 and 20 cupcakes to match the cake. We went for a Red Velvet Cake with buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant. I tinted the fondant a chocolate color and cut out little pink and white circles. I placed little polka dots on the cake and used the large circles to form a flower shape. I then piped royal icing as stitches around the flowers. The cake was topped with the Letter A for Amelia and placed a pink bow to match the ribbon around the bottom of each tier.

The cupcakes were Red Velvet with buttercream icing. I cut out pink circle and indented the letter A into each one and placed on top. We placed the cupcakes on two white boards with brown and pink polka dots.

The beautiful mother-to-be seemed to love the cakes. Congrats to you, Bre! We can’t wait to meet Amelia!
